the human side of animals Reviews
I read and loved this book when I was a child, so much that I much later took it from my parents' house and still have it - the first edition, hardcover, titled Animal IQ. Will re-read it one of these days.
I read this book long ago when I lived in Newfoundland and also his book The Status Seekers. I was very impressed with both of them and wish I still had my old copies so I could read them again. This was also around the time that I read White Fang, The Call of the Wild, Gone with the Wind and The Mistress of Mellyn. I was glad to see this old book today.
By today's standards, this book is naive and simplistic, but more than half a century ago, it was probably quite an eye-opener on the subject of animal intelligence, and the ability of animals, especially primates, to "think like a human."
This is one of the few non-fiction books I read voluntarily as a child. Stories about lab rats and other animals and amusing and perplexing behavior. I have read it at least 3 times. Fascinating.
Entertaining and interesting. A different twist on anthropomorphism.
