Best Enemies Reviews
my goodness felicity was annoying!! she has to be one of the most horrible little girl characters i've read about in awhile. NO redeeming qualities at all.and poor priscilla just takes her shit day after day. even invites this bitch to her birthday party. smhfelicity begs to blow the candles out on priscilla's birthday cake, smashes the top of the cake flat with the cake cutter and almost ruins priscilla's mini glass horse that was a decoration on the cake :| why didn't the parents intervene?! lmaoi thought this was going to be one of those stories where they start as enemies and end as friends buuuut... 0_o not the case here also, i have the 1989 version and the illustration of felicity is scary as shit, just saying.
This was a favorite from my childhood that I just reread. It has held up after all these years; I may have even enjoyed it more now that I understand the dry humor that reminded me of Frog and Toad. Priscilla is a classic every-girl character. She is nice, and is so shocked by Felicity's boorish behavior that Felicity initially steamrolls her into getting her own way. It is delightful and satisfying to witness Priscilla's development in learning how to handle Felicity's bossy personality. This book cracked me up! And I think I learned a thing or two from Priscilla. It also touched on something that is rarely talked about--while you can be polite and respectful of everyone, it's okay to not be friends, too. Great writing, Kathleen Leverich!P.S. I loved the skeptical older sister character, too.*Originally read in 1988. Reread in 2015.
My first period reading class - a mix of 3rd and 4th graders - read the first chapter from this in their Anthology. They were so obsessed with it that we sought out the whole series and read it together. The kids really enjoy seeing the bully lose over and over, and it's a good platform for discussing friendships and how to treat others. As a reading teacher, I also found it lending itself well to predictions - the kids were constantly guessing how Priscilla would outwit Felicity each time.
There was this girl called Priscilla who was looking forward on making friends in her new class, but Felicity Doll is not exactly what she is looking for.Felicity stole her favorite sweater, makes fun of her new shoes and almost spoils her birthday party.Felicity Doll was not a good friend because she made her to suffers a lot.
A good springboard for discussion about being friends!
Ah, I didn't like this book because the mean girl drove me crazy and then I wasn't too terribly proud of the OTHER girl, like, the good girl, and it just kept going on and on with the rudeness. I guess it was realistic though, because sometimes, that's how it would go when you were a little kid and there was a mean classmate. Argh. They were always there, always doing what they did, and you just had to keep dealing with it and trying not to fall for it.
I loved the book it was too short and very interesting.
