The Cancer Solution:Taking Charge of Your Life with Cancer Reviews
Review: THE CANCER SOLUTION: Taking Charge Of Your Life With Cancer By Jack C. WestmanA comprehensive and eminently readable handbook and guide to an essential subject, THE CANCER SOLUTION by Jack C. Westman, M.D., M.S., a psychiatrist, is designed for both laypersons dealing with cancer personally or in loved ones. Emphasized are various newer possibilities for treatment, including nutrition, immunotherapy, and complementary care. The issues and concerns of caregivers are also addressed. I think this is a highly useful guide.I reviewed a digital copy via The Cadence Group, for review purpose.
The cover of this book isn't fancy. It doesn't have to be. This is one of those times when you do not choose a book by its cover. The information is what is important and as I read each page in this book, my eyes were opened wider and wider. You see, I have friends with cancer, and I have two rare blood disorders. My oncologist explained it to me as a double-edged sword. I may develop Leukemia if untreated or I may develop Leukemia if treated. I often wondered what my decision would be if I were faced with the dilemma of prolonging my life for any amount of time with chemotherapy or choosing not to do chemo and just enjoy the time I had left. I didn't realize that it might one day become a reality. At that point, when you are sitting across from your doctor, receiving devastating news, all of your previous conceived notions take flight and you are suddenly forced into a state of shock and making decisions based on panic and not education. I didn't want to be that person and for that reason alone, I am glad this book came through my email when it did.Dr. Westman suffered through cancer alongside his wife and he learned a lot along the journey that would last more than twenty years. He then sat down to write a practical, easy to understand book to help others through their journey. Dr. Westman discusses the health care system and enlightens the reader on the tug of war between doctors, hospitals, health care, patients, pharmaceuticals, and on and how each one of us has failed ourselves in the battle of cancer. There is no ONE person or entity to blame. It is a culmination of all put together. There is a wonderful Table of Contents for use once you've read the book. Dr. Westman has compiled a book of research that will aid you in making the correct decision for you or a loved one with cancer. If I pointed out the most important things in the book, I would simply be reprinting the book in its entirety right here. I highly recommend this book to everyone, whether or not you or a loved one has experienced cancer. I think the information transcends illnesses. More at www.mylifeonestoryatatime.com
Cancer is a big influence in people's lives. Whether it's you who is afflicted, or a loved one, people wo have dealt with cancer either way knows the profound effect it has on people's lives.Having dealt with cancer in the past - whether for myself, or a loved one - I know how scary it can be. Other people have had it worse, and I've been relatively lucky in my own experiences with cancer, but I found this book to be informative, nonetheless.i will admit that I put this book down a couple of times. Not because I found it boring or hard to read, but there IS a lot of information in here to process, as well as consider for one's own options if they are personally facing cancer. I feel that the author presented his information in as clear of a manner as possible without dumbing things down. There is a lot to consider in here, and I would recommend this book because I feel it provides a lot of great information for consideration and empowerment. Knowledge IS power, and something as serious as cancer needs knowledge on the part of the patient, not just the doctors.
The Cancer Solution: Taking Charge of your Life with Cancer By Jack C Westman is one book everyone should have. I was offered a free copy to review and it was well worth it. Taking charge of your life with cancer is a reality when a loved one is diagnosed. My father was and died already before I even read this book. I love that the author explains in (lay terms) the stages of cancer. He writes where every reader should have one copy to help others with cancer. It's not easy to go home from the doctor and be a "cancer victim" so if you don't go to a doctor for regular checkups how will you not prevent it? Most wait until it's too late. There are many ways to treat cancer and holistically as well. You will learn so much in this guide that you will feel relief as you cope with your emotions. The book is for lay persons or health professionals but to the average reader as well. © 2015 Jackie Paulson
This book was FREE via the Goodreads First Read giveaway program and I'm THRILLED that I won this particular book!!First off, I don't often give books "5 stars" and so "4 stars" is a really good rating from me! As a cancer survivor I was really interested to read Dr. Westman's book and, again, I'm THRILLED I won it and was able to do so as part of the First Read giveaway. I found his book to be extremely easy to read and I loved all the nuances and information that was within the chapters to not only people who might be dealing with cancer, but for family members as well. Although there were times when the medical terminology was a struggle for me to keep up with, I still found the entire book well written and VERY readable.I would HIGHLY recommend this for anyone who has been thru cancer, is going thru cancer or knows someone who has been diagnosed with cancer! There is SO MUCH material that you might not have thought about that Dr. Westman helps with!!
