secrets at pemberley a pride and prejudice variation Reviews
True to most variations of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, we have the cad (Wickham),the witches (Caroline and Lady Catherine), the sad young girl who hasn't put 2 & 2 together (Georgiana), and our couple in love that still struggle with trust issues. Required to reject Darcy's proposal with the threat to hurt the Bennet daughters, especially Jane, Elizabeth leaves Kent angry at Darcy's aunt. When Elizabeth and her Aunt and Uncle Gardiner travel to Derbyshire, our couple meet again with Darcy coming to Elizabeth's rescue. Friends of Darcy's, including Caroline and the Hursts, are at Pemberley when he asks Elizabeth and the Gardiners to stay because of a fire at the Lambton Inn. Confusion abounds at Pemberley with Darcy thinking that Elizabeth is making secret meetings with Wickham, she finally tells Darcy about Wickham and Georgiana. Finding Georgiana gone, Elizabeth tells Darcy about a secret entrance in the music room unknown by Darcy but known by Wickham. Following the recovery of Georgiana from her own folly, Elizabeth and the Gardiners leave for Longbourn with confusion between Darcy and Elizabeth. Arriving for Jane and Bingley's wedding, the confusion is dispelled, and Darcy asks for Elizabeth's hand in marriage. Everyone is happy for our couple except one at the announcement, but neither worry about her exclamation.
This book begins where Lizzy is standing on the cliffs in Derbyshire during her trip there with her aunt and uncle Gardiner. They end up touring Pemberley after being assured that the family was from home but Elizabeth ends up being scared by Darcy walking through some bushes and falls off the dock that she was standing on into the water. Darcy ends up saving her as her dress twists up around her legs and she couldn't untwist it. Oh and guess who is also in the area. If you guess Wicked George you would be correct. He just happened to visiting his bastard child and trying to woo Georgiana all over again.I love how awkward Lizzy and Darcy are towards each other in this book. What I didn't like was that Caroline was even more snooty and bitchy than her original counterpart. Darcy needed to grow a back bone where Lizzy is involved and ask her how she felt instead of letting others do it for her. They are ultimately wrong you know. This series as a whole is a good one and I will probably read it again sometime in the future.
There are some secrets at the beautiful estate of Pemberley! Elizabeth finds herself residing at Pemberley as a guest when the Inn where she is staying mysteriously catches fire. She finds her attraction to Mr Darcy hard to define. One minute she feels he is in love with her and the next.. does he think of her as his enemy? Interesting story of a haunted pianoforte, a dashing highwayman causing all kinds of mischief and a secret passageway. This was a wonderful ending to the Dark Darcy Series. Mysteries, suspense, danger and yes, the perfect ending! I couldn't ask for anything more of a book.. I'd like to thank the author for gifting me a copy for my opinion.. I totally enjoyed reading this book and the whole series certainly kept me intrigued..
Loved is conclusion to the series! Yes at times I was frustrated with Darcy for not trusting in elizabeth but I can see why he would come to the wrong conclusion with Wickham invoked in the picture (jealously of course!). Elizabeth is on a trip with her aunt and uncle when they visit Pemberley and bump into Darcy. I loved that scene - it was the opposite of the P&P movie with Colin Firth and thought it was hilarious! Caroline is you so Caroline, Georgiana thinks she loves Wickham and the affection is returned and Darcy goes from hoping to win Elizabeth to believing her in love with Wickham which brings out his pride! Happy ending of course and I do so hope that the author will continue with the mystery storyline into their honeymoon!
Contrived and annoyingThe author should market these books to the juvenile reader. The mysteries are obvious and the machinations the characters are put thru so the author can hit all the major story points are ridiculous. I also don't see what is so dark about Darcy? A poisoner is forgiven? Elizabeth is constantly running around in the dark risking her life and reputation? Nope. Glad I didn't spend money on them. The second star is for the editing (no real problems). Again, look to the juvenile market Ms. Swan. I would have enjoyed the story if I was 14.
Great story lineUnlike other Jane Austen fan fiction these novels not only kept the mysteries going but kept me in suspense as to how the couple would finally get together. I also appreciate the lack of gratuitous sex and bad language that so many authors feel is necessary to keep the readers engaged.
A great book and a wonderful series. I love the romance and elegance of the time period!! The author is adept at bringing the setting to life for her readers. I hope that she will continue the adventure!
The qhole collection should be turned into a movie!!!!
Wonderful SeriesLoved it! Please write more novels in this series!!! I have been on the edge of my seat for days!
