Mon avis en FrançaisMy English reviewIt’s always a pleasure to find Secret again and her hectic life. I must say that her destiny is looming more and more and we feel a constant evolution in her character. Indeed, a lot of things happened in the previous novel and I was very curious to attend the events there. Our young heroine is now a full member of the court, a place that is not really familiar, but she tries to adapt and to meet the requirements of people around her. If only it were only that but she must also manage her position in the pack and the meaning of being the companion of two alphas. This is already something very complicated in itself, but she must also investigate the disappearance of a young girl who strangely coincides with the reappearance of the man who has totally broke her heart years before. This allows us also to be able to learn a little more about her past as it ultimately remains quite mysterious. There are as always a lot of things in this novel and Secret evolves a lot. We therefore see that she is ultimately even more different than what we thought. I really wonder where the story will end up and I’m looking forward to reading the other novels in order learn more. I am also looking forward to seeing how her relationship with Desmond and Lucas will change, ad they’re both completely different and tensions finally starting to appear. I admit that I love the two men and I would struggle to pick just one… Besides they are not alone and even if Holden isn’t very present here, it’s like it was the case. I was quite surprised to see that Sig wasn’t really present either, especially after what had happened earlier but I hope that we’ll have the opportunity to learn more in relation to his motives as it’s really difficult to understand that. The plot of this novel was fabulous and I was completely surprised several times by the turn of the history. Sierra Dean masters her world and her characters and I’m very curious to continue to learn more and more. This is a very good urban fantasy series, full of originality and I warmly recommend you to try it if you haven’t yet.

I'm really confused over this series, I like Secret but I've yet to see her do anything, worthy of her badass reputation. she seems to get knocked in the head at the start of every fight and beat her opponent without me realising for a a paragraph or two. I like Desmond but the author hasn't left much room to move because I don't think I will except her dumping him for another love interest just because he's too nice.I hate Lucas. I don't feel anything for him and I dont think Secret does either, he seems to be motivated mostly by the packs needs and i don't even think he loves her.I like Sig but I'm not sure how he feels about her as there was a reference in the last book that Secret was the most important thing to him.. like since when? and why does he always put her in danger.I love Holden but I feel bad about Desmond and I don't think there is a way to get around him. Also I don't like the fact that the only male character she doesn't have a romantic relationship with is gay. -dominick

Originally reviewed at http://www.smexybooks.com/2012/03/rev...Favorite Quote: “Do you kiss you mom with that mouth?”“No, but I would tell her to go fuck herself with this mouth.”At the end of A Bloody Good Secret, Secret McQueen killed a tribunal member, which automatically requires her to take the deceased place. Now that she is on the Tribunal, Secret finds herself playing more of an administrative role and being less active in the field. Something she misses very much. With her new supernatural powers becoming stronger and more unpredictable, she is also required to have a bodyguard. This keeps her and Holden rather close and Secret finds her attraction to him increasing. In Deep Dark Secret, Holden calls in his marker and asks Secret for help for a friend. Secret finds herself in the presence of the were-ocelot’s Queen, Genevieve, who is asking a favor. Her niece has gone missing and she wants Secret to find her. Secret is excited to finally be hitting the pavement; doing actual work. Secret realizes a serial killer is stalking paranormal females, taunting the police department with grisly clues. Her investigation leads her to her old boyfriend, Gabriel. Secret knows Gabriel couldn’t have done this and goes undercover looking for the real killer. A killer who’s gift is to die for.Sierra Dean comes back with a hard one-two punch as she brings us another thrilling installment of her Secret McQueen series-Deep Dark Secret. A delightfully dark and humorous urban fantasy that pairs charismatic characters with engaging action filled plots that will leave you wanting more after you read the words, “The End.” Each installment continues to mature, further enriching the development of the characters in realistic fashion. The emotion and decisions they make aren’t always what we want, but we can’t deny they aren’t for the best. I wouldn’t recommend starting here if you haven’t read the previous books. This arc is long reaching and each book picks up where the last one leaves off. You’ll miss out on a lot of the build up if you skip.Secret McQueen, half vampire and half werewolf, has had a very hard year. Gone are her bounty hunting days; circumstances have placed her in a tangible position of power on the Vampire Tribunal. Her powers are increasing and changing, leaving her feeling uneasy. Her love life continues to be one hot sexy mess and suddenly she is remembering things…things that may have been better left buried.Though she lives with her werewolf lover Desmond, she is also in a relationship with Lucas, the King of the Werewolves. He’s pushing for a more permanent bonding for political and personal reasons and isn’t above tricking Secret to get it. Holden, oh sexy, sexy Holden, is also asking for a chance to see if their mutual attraction is anything more then just that. And then there is poor Desmond. *sigh* He always seems to get the shaft. He has Secret’s body but I’m not convinced he has her heart. If I have any qualms about this series, it’s still the romance. After three books and a few novellas, the romance hasn’t advanced much beyond the initial stages. I don’t really sense any love between any of them. Except Desmond. I feel he loves Secret but I don’t get the same feeling from Secret. Secret’s love life is based on a soul bond and I still don’t understand it. I can’t wrap my mind around that it can over ride all your intentions and good sense. And Secret doesn’t have much sense concerning it. She gets mad but never says anything. There is one scene ( a major scene that changes everything) that really made me mad. While I wasn’t pleased with Lucas, it was Secret’s actions that left me cold. I expected him to act that way-but not her. There is a small, vindictive part of me, that wants Desmond to find a second “soul mate” too and stick it to Secret. But I’m petty like that. I think my problem is that love triangles bother me to begin with. It feels like cheating and I don’t really see a future in it unless it’s just for sex. It has an Anita Blake feel to it. However, clues in this book and hints from Ms. Dean lead me to believe the decision may not be hers for much longer and major changes are in the air.The main conflict is quite macabre and chocked full of action and suspense as Secret follows a literal trail of blood and murder to a insidious villain who’s evil knows no boundaries. He plays a nasty game of cat and mouse with Secret and I found myself on edge, not sure if Secret would come out of this unscathed. Old friends come into play; we see the luscious Detective Taylor again, who is still under the impression that Secret stood him up and makes no bones about the fact he doesn’t like her. Holden does a fine job of playing her conscientious and I still loves him lots. They all offer advice, warnings, and show signs of keeping even more secrets from Secret as she fights to find Lucy and for her life. The ending is a dramatic affair with plenty of twists, turns, and shocking revelations that has me waiting impatiently for book 4. Even with my qualms concerning Secret’s love life, the main storyline and arc developments keeps this series strong and me a fan.Overall Rating: B-

I have a thing for jerkish alpha males. You are the king of a large territory of the werewolves, and can hold your own with Secret. However, you made me slam my kindle, Martini down on the table and exclaim: "My part of the love triangle isn't going so well." to my parents whom I was staying with at the time and both looked at me like I was crazy. They told me to go onto twitter to talk about my woes. Thank goodness Bells from Hanging With Bells was around to sooth me. You had my heart twisted in knots. I'm not sure I'll be able to forgive you for the pain and almost heart failure you caused to me and Martini. However, it was nice to see more of you in this book, and I like how you keep Secret on her toes. Not a fan-C Lucas sidled up to me, and though my heels gave me a slight advantage, I still needed to look up to see his smile. Funny how his silly grin could light a spark inside me, even when I was worried I might start biting people any minute.Dear Holden, I know that you are a vampire and think that you know Secret pretty well because of it. I should also really like you because you are smug, yet caring. However, until this book you were the one part of the triangle I disliked the most. However, you now have some company in the dislike area. I really hate how you try to make me like you. Every now and then I will find myself going: "Now I know why Secret likes him" luckily though, those feelings don't last very long and I am reminded why you are dangerous half (or is it triad?) of this triangle. I'm not sure I'll be able to forgive you for making me like you just a teensy, tiny little bit in this book. Because of you, Secret hunted down a missing college girl. I enjoyed the mystery of figuring everything out, and I have to admit I was so wrong about everything, even when it was staring me in the face. The mystery introduced us to Gabe, the idiot who broke Secrets heart. The introduction to new characters was nice, even though it made me scream in frustration a few times.Still not a fan (but maybe getting an inch closer to one)C "Looking for the bedroom?" he asked, giving me a sly smirk. :Yeah. Where do you keep your coffin? Or are you strictly a black-satin-sheets-on-a-four poster-bed kind of cliche?" :Are you asking for an invitation?" his grin faded and he gave me the once over, his gaze trailing and lingering the way some men might use their hands.Dear Desmond,Be still my heart. Words can't say how much you are my favorite of this love triangle. You understand Secret like neither Holden or Lucas do. You are there for her when she needs you to be, no matter what. You make me sigh, and even though you are just second in command to Lucas I think you are totally enough of an Alpha to be with Secret. She needs someone to bring out the softer side of her that is hiding. I liked how you were there to help her out instead of just waiting around twiddling your thumbs. I really enjoyed it when you gave Lucas a chewing out when he needed it. You are one of the rare nice guys that I find myself cheering for.Love always,C" It's different, though. Reviewed by: Rabid ReadsIn the wake of two killer books and two even better novella's, Deep Dark Secret delivers more of the same, an action-packed story staring a top notch heroine. Although this series has managed to maintain its momentum; I'd anticipated something a little different this time around. Sierra's now an all-powerful Tribunal Leader and yet, she finds herself following the same old patterns and assassin ways. I expected something new out of this installment. I suppose that the saying "if something's not broke don't fix it" applies to this series but that might not hold true for much longer if McQueen's character doesn't start evolving into her new role soon. There's definitely no lack of intrigue or conflict in this story. Secret's learning to juggle her new leadership responsibilities (both as Tribunal Leader and Werewolf Queen), striving for balance in her complicated love life and hunting one of the nastiest prey she's ever faced. It's a wonder that McQueen's managed to keep her head on straight. The only problem with having numerous, competing plot lines is that eventually one either ends up stealing the show or they start to become one big jumbled mess. In this case it was a little bit of both. Personally, I thought that Dean should have spent more time untangling Sierra's threesome or having her transition into her new roles. Instead Secret's still taking down names and kicking butt which isn't the worst shortcoming a book can have but it also won't sustain this series in the long run. I'm still not entirely sure where Sierra Dean is going with this series' love triangle. Desmond is a sweetheart and if he happens to come out on top I'd be one happy gal. It's impossible not to root for him, especially when his competition is Lucas. Boy do I hate the werewolf king! He continually makes stupid move after stupid move and I for one will rejoice if he gets off-ed in Keeping Secret. For such a kick ass chick, Secret's a real dummy when it comes to Lucas. I'm secretly hoping that she'll lose her temper one of these days and chop off his head. Honorable mention goes to Holden, his contribution to this tale is minimal but I'm not discounting him as a contender quite yet. I'm ecstatic that Secret finally taps into her werewolf side in book 3 and hope that it's a sign of things to come. Calliope, the oracle, also delivers a few cryptic predictions that have the potential to really shake things up down the line. Secret's on the cusp of something big in Deep Dark Secret, I can feel it. I guess only time and Keeping Secret will tell for sure.

You can't see me, but I swear I am gnashing my teeth right now. I am just on the cusp of loving this series. I love Secret... and almost all of the secondary characters. The world building is great. The pacing is good. I like the concept, the plot, the dialogue. But then there is this goddamn love triangle that makes me want to tear apart my nook with my bare hands.Let's start with the good stuff, though, shall we? As the story begins, we see Secret starting to come into her own as a member of the Tribunal. But she is still itching to go back to her bounty hunter adventures. So when Holden's maker Rebecca asks her to investigate a missing person's case, Secret doesn't mind one bit. The deeper she digs, the more she realizes the girl's disappearance is likely linked to a larger case involving a handful of missing girls from the local university. So Secret works, in part, with Holden --and in other part with Mercedes-- to try to unravel the mystery.I thought that element of the story was great. The villain was bad-ass, and Secret was stretched to her limit trying to defeat him. We get to meet her smarmy ex-boyfriend who has been mentioned in prior books. We get to see Ty and his growing mistrust of Secret. I love how we keep building on all the people in Secret's life and their continuing interactions with her.I also love how she is evolving. It's not entirely clear how she is changing, but it's clear that she is. At times, her vampire side shows signs of dominating... other times, we see more of the wolf coming out than ever before. But why? How far will it go? These questions are there, wrapped up in some cryptic prophecy from the Oracle. It all makes me want MOAR!!And then there is the romance. I love Desmond. There. I said it. I love Desmond and Lucas is a giant douchecanoe. Before, I found him kind of peripheral and annoying. Now he is firmly in the wanker camp. He does something... scratch that... he does TWO things in this book that are pretty major and pissed me off. But, perhaps, even worse is Secret's reaction. What in the hell is she thinking? I just don't understand. It made me mad. I felt jerked around. Not because of Lucas' behavior, but because of Secret's. Fail. Fail. Fail.Oh yeah, and then there's still Holden. (*sigh*)I am genuinely torn. What I like, I really really like. But what I don't.... Grrrrrrr.

What was the deal with the disgusting rape analogy and its subsequent apology? If there's one thing that makes me gag it's reading apologies and justifications for what a rapist has done (and lets be real, it may not have been rape as it's usually defined, but if we did live in a paranormal word that would constitute rape). Now not only has he completely violated her and proved again and again that he's a manipulative waste of sperm, but she's going to marry him?!I'm reading the next book in hopes he'll die a horrible death!

I've been waiting for this. Strong female heroine. Haven't read this good a premise since Sookie. I'm not sure if this series is sustainable. Characters are not evolving. Too many directions but still a good read.

Meh.I don't know if it's the execution of the story or what but this was meh for me. I found the conflict between Secret and Lucas not getting resolved. I want to know who all is supposed to be with her. Especially since we've had lingering something with Holden. There is a potential relationship there. Also lately, it's been feeling like Secret can't do anything on her own. She constantly needs someone to bail her out. I just wasn't a huge fan of this plot and of the romance. I just plainly didn't like this book as well as I did others. However, I'm invested far enough into the series that I want to see what's going to happen. I do think this might be a story I can't binge though as after a while I become with the book.In this book Secret has to help Holden's maker because she owed a favor. So it is to find her consort's niece. This leads her to Columbia where her ex boyfriend happens to be working as a TA and is accused of murder. There's a lot going on here, but even I could see from a mile away that the cases were related. I don't understand why Secret didn't think they were connected, if she did I must have missed it.I'll continue just not yet.

This book was awesome. I always get a bit of a giggle from the way Secret thinks and speaks. This one was no different. Secret was up to her eyeballs in mysteries to solve and she rocked it & kicked it ass – as per usual, with the sass she is best known for.In this book, the 3rd, we follow Secret (half vampire and half werewolf) take her place on the Vampire Council and try to give up her hunting. Her wolf and vampire natures are getting closer to the surface and she is desperately trying to cling to her humanity, all while trying to find the missing niece of the Ocelot Queen, balance her two lovers – Lucas (King Alpha) and Desmond (Alphas Second), take her place as the pack protector to try and prevent a hostile takeover from her baddie cousin, as well as work out who’s killing the missing college girls. The very same girls that ex boyfriend Gabriel has been accused of murdering. Secret is struggling with so much in this installment but still manages to get the answers and save the day! And, in true Secret style! I adore her curiosity, she is off doing something, gets sidetracked by something shiny and is then off to check out something else. It works for her!Desmond. Oh Des. Now, everyone that has ever read any kind of review I have posted, knows my favorite part of every book I devour is the romance side and Secret & Des have that in spades. Unfortunately, they have a rocky relationship and not by choice. I love them together & I want them together! (Hear that Sierra :D ) I adored that they fought side by side and feared for the other more than themselves. They are the perfect balance and bring out the softer side in each other. Ying & yang.Lucas – what a douche. I mean seriously? He is a manipulative, unkind, jealous douche. I can’t believe the things he said and did. From where I’m sitting, he seems just plain selfish. He is out. I don’t think there is any way he can redeem himself in my eyes, short of sacrificing himself for Des, then he can be Alpha and he & Secret been together until the end of time…Hmpfff. I know that’s never ganna happen. And you know what, I kind of got that the pack always comes number one, but I felt that Lucas could maybe go about it a little differently. Say…not manipulating Secret & threatening her lover? Again, I say DOUCHE!I missed Sig, I had thought he would pop up for sure. But, nothing. Hmmmm. I am certain there is more here after what happened last book when the Oracle let something slip briefly talking to Sig about Secret near the end, then cut her sentence off. Watch this space!Holden. I think there could definitely be something here. He cares about Secret. Deeply. I love the dog comments and he makes me giggle with his moody stomping. It’s hilarious to read about him tantruming and giving Secret the silent treatment. If she is going to have a poly-amorous relationship it should be with Holden & Des, I could totally get on board with that :)The Baddie. Oh, what a baddie. He gave me goosebumps, just creepy. Dracula? Hahaha Secret. Trust you! I picked the baddie when she first met him, but was loathe to know just how BAD he was. I was on the edge of my chair just waiting to see what was going to happen and who was going to believe the double. Secret fought for her life while trying to figure out how to defeat something so new, something she had never faced before.I love that Secret will help anyone, and that she is fiercely protective of Des, Mercedes and everyone else she cares for, even as she fights both her natures and often her wannabe boyfriends. She is funny, fun & tough, and really deserves a little break (Sierra, this one’s for you :D), but not too big. I want to know what happens next!

Secret McQueen is back in her Jimmy Choos, and kicking major ass, y’all! After the events of the previous book, Something Secret This Way Comes, Secret has earned herself a seat on the vampire Tribunal. She has staked and clawed her way to the top, proving she is the biggest baddest b!tch on the block. She is also trying to learn all the social nuances of her role of pack protector, and also consort to Lucas, King of the Eastern wolf pack. As a she tries to balance herself in the world of vampires and the world of werewolves, Secret seemingly rolls with the punches. Likewise, while she is bonded to Lucas, she is also bonded to Desmond, whom she lives with and loves. While Secret is investigating a missing niece of the Were-Ocelot Queen as a favor, she is called upon by a man from her past, a former boyfriend. He’s been arrested and is being charged with the murder of a college student. His case and the favor she is repaying collide and result in major tension, action, mystery, and Secret trademarked humor on the side.Deep Dark Secret had me going “You SUCK, Lucas!” very often. For me, Lucas takes assholery to the asholleryith degree in this one, and Secretgoddammit allows him. She is an assholery enabler! *shakes fist* It made me want to kick him in the nuts, and slap her in the face. Affectionately, of course. I’d slap her affectionately. But duuuuude. Also, am I the ONLY ONE who wants her to get with Holden?? I mean I know it’s not really feasible, and she’s got too many men on her plate as it is, but I love him. And he shows some jealousy in this one, and it’s so hot. He is assigned to be her body guard, of sorts, but there was not nearly enough of him. And I definitely could have used more Sig.The villain in Deep Dark Secret is creepy as hell, ewwwww. And ohmygod I loved how the mystery unfolded. The action and violence were just the way I like ‘em. All in all, the Secret McQueen series is the UF gift that just keeps on giving. The Secret McQueen series reading order:Secret Guide to Dating Monsters (.5)A Bloody Good Secret (1)Something Secret This Way Comes (2)Secret Santa (2.5)Deep Dark Secret (3)

I loved the first 2.5 books of this series. As I got to read them altogether it was fantastic. This wasn't those books. It was more "were" focused and political in that there were a lot of happenings that were for the result and political gain. I have to say I didn't like the direction. It probably was inevitable but I wonder where we're going to end up come the next book.Whilst I don't want Secret being the multiple vamp / werewolf partner girl (I'll leave that to LKH/AB). I personally don't want this current direction continued regardless of the understanding of the motivation or the possible fallout. So whilst I downloaded this book with a great deal of anticipation I found myself not rushing the reading as I was thinking "No!".The actual "bad guy" mystery that Secret was investigating was really interesting and was up to the usual standard so I don't mean to imply this was a bad book. I also realise that characters need to progress (unless they're Stephanie Plum) or the story becomes stale or repetitive. I will be looking forward to the next instalment of Secret McQueen and I'm sure that Sierra Dean will write another fantastic book. This one just won't be a favourite of mine.I've had a bit of distance since reading this book and can say more specifically that I don't like Lucas. All of his actions fall under the "ask for forgiveness and not permission" category. I hated this arrogance and dismissal of the impact of his actions on everyone else. I guess you could say he's being "royal" but I don't think that should give him a license to be a pratt. I also have a big (I hope wrong) suspicion that his new 2IC is an affair waiting to happen and it just feels sleazy. I wanted Secret to slap them both silly instead of being so damned understanding.

I love this series and I loved the first two books. That being said, this one didn't quite do it for me. It took a lot of will power to get past the first quarter of the book. The action was lacking, the relationships between Secret and Desmond, and Secret and Lucas, were more aggravating than interesting (and I can get behind some twisted love triangles!). To be honest, the thing that brought me back into the story oddly enough was the Medieval Literature references (I am a nerd for Chaucer). After I made it past the first third of the book, the action got good, the plot really took off, and I was pulled back in. I really liked the villain, he had a good creep factor to him and there was plenty of suspense before we find out what his story is which I like. I'll continue the series because I do like the way Sierra Dean writes, and I do like some of the characters, but I'm anxious about the romance angle. I don't love the direction Secret's relationships with either of her men are going but I'll tune in for the next book to see if it moves in a better direction.

I enjoyed most of this book but it's gets a low rating because I hate Secret's relationship with Lucas, he manipulates her into doing things she doesn't want to do (or just does them and without asking her), then guilts her for being 'selfish' enough to think of what she actually wants and whats best for her rather than doing what suits him best and then uses their bond to emotionally manipulate her into agreeing with him (also why is this bond a one way street that makes Secret roll over and accept his decisions but doesn't affect the way Lucas acts towards her). (view spoiler)[Tricking her into accepting the mate bond also is kind of date rapey(hide spoiler)]I also don't understand why every guy secret meets seems to fall for her and the only person male she seems capable of having a platonic relationship with is Dominick (view spoiler)[who's gay (hide spoiler)]. I wish that she was less defined by her sexual relationships (not romantic because there's not much romance at all, they all just seem to think Secret's hot).

Full review at http://thesaucywenchesbookclub.blogsp...*SPOILERS*I can deal with Lucas Rain being a total asshole. I never liked him. So I'm not surprised by HIS shitty behavior. What I CANNOT STAND is Secret LITERALLY lying down and taking it! W-T-F!? The FORCED mating and the ridiculous proposal! ANY woman with ANY self respect, metaphysical BULLSHIT be damned, would walk over to him and slug him! UGH! If it weren't for all the Lucas related bullshit I would have LOVED this book. This is the first time I thought the mystery wasn't kinda predictable. I love Desmond, and even Holden. And the Demon story line was very interesting. But her marrying that giant asshole is ruining everything for me. And to reward that shitty behavior by having sex with him.. GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK. At this point I don't know if I'm going to move on to the next book. But I think not. If I have to read about her "understanding" Lucas because of the stupid mating I'm going to throw the book against a wall.

And I'm done with this series. Secret McQueen reads more like a whiny, childish, wannabe Anita Blake. I've yet to see her do anything truly spectacular and she just keeps adding more and more men without really delving into anything remotely emotional with them. She "loves" Desmond (right!), but let's be serious how could she, how could anyone? All he does is stay at her apartment and be emotionally clingy- also he kind of sucks as a bodyguard (seeing as how she almost dies every book- just saying). Desmond is a nice guy with a lot of doormat tendencies which leaves me unable to take him seriously as a bad-ass (i.e. when he punched the wall after Lucas bit Secret I laughed at the ridiculousness of it) Now the two men who should have more face time, Sig and Lucas, now those are worthy men. Sure they're bossy but one would think that you'd want to surround yourself by people that are your equals, men that are capable of giving as good as they get.Overall the series had a lot of potential, but three books later and the plot really hasnt gone anywhere.

I like this series and really enjoyed this latest book. I do recommend starting with book 1 to understand the relationships and circustances. Again, we have good action and interesting plots...and new developments with Secret own abilites. I like that she is a halfling, vampire/werewolf, and all the possibilities it presents. She climbs the ranks in the Were & Vamp worlds and maintains a balance between the two. And strangely enough, I even like her having 2 love interests...the way it's presented here works for me. Both are wolves, one being a true emotional bond while the other is a bond born out of duty. So I kinda get the love she has for both Desmond & Lucas. Then there are the vampires, Holden & Sig, that would love to love her but she only lets get so close. Makes for a fun read! As the Oracle says...her destiny has 2 paths and she will have to choose. I can't wait for the next book!!

It's a fun read, but I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had found anything in commom with Secret.I like how Secret is kick ass, but I couldn't care less about her Jimmy Choos or her latest I-feel-bad-but-I-spent-someoneelse's-fortune-anyway-on-..I also can't really understand her relationship with her two werewolves boyfriends. Official with one, and sleeping with the other? Until I found that it wasn't platonic and she started sleeping with both?I don't know.. Even Anita Blake didn't leave this complicated stuff unexplained.... And yes, Secret is like a blonde version of Anita, all this power, all these men, and not enough showdowns.Yes, I'll probably read the next one, but not in a great hurry or anything...

Posted at Yummy Men & Kick Ass ChicksDeep Dark Secret is the third book in Sierra Dean’s Secret McQueen series and it continues to show how well Sierra can write and weave a story. This is very much an urban fantasy series: you have your kick ass chick in Secret who is half werewolf, half vampire and you follow her from book to book as she hunts down rogue vampires, solves crimes, gets tangled up in situations that are way over her head all the while mingling with not one, not two but three men. Well, I suppose technically it’s two men since one is only interested in her but they are not actually doing anything about that…Secret is an amazing heroine. In fact, I’ve added her to my favorite characters list because that is how awesome she is. Even though she isn’t human she is trying to hold on to the humanity that was instilled in her by her Grandmere, but she is beginning to feel the ‘monsters’ getting closer and closer to the surface. She is very good at her job(s) and knows it, yet she is often vulnerable and sweet…in her own way. I love how Secret is snarky and strong yet not afraid to ask for help. She is relatable and funny and just all around a great read. One of the men in her life is Desmond. I know that many people think he is too weak to be with Secret but I am one of those who think they are awesome together. He is a werewolf and is the Alpha’s second, but even as an alpha, he is not afraid of showing Secret his softer more playful side. Secret is all over the place sometimes and she needs someone who will balance her out. That’s what Desmond does. I really like them together.Next we have Holden. He isn’t in this installment much but when he’s on the page, you take notice. He is a vampire and used to be Secret’s handler. Now…well she is sort of his boss. Yeah…you would think that would be awkward, and sometimes it is, but neither of these characters is shallow enough to let it get to them to the point where we want to bang someone over the head. I like how Holden sees Secret for whom and what she is and still appreciates her. I like how he cares for her without expecting anything…much. He really is a good guy but before I can really say that Secret belongs with Desmond and not with Holden, I think I may need to see how Secret is with Holden in a romantic (and not forced or awkward) setting. Will we ever see that? Who the heck knows? In this series, anything is possible. And our third and final contestant is…Lucas. Lucas is the werewolf Alpha – he is the king. I was a huge Lucas fan girl while reading book one. In fact, if you were creepy passed by my window you would have seen me with an ‘I heart Lucas’ sign in one hand and a pom pom in the other. But now…I may have spray painted my Lucas sign with a big red X and may have stomped on it a few times. I may have even let the kids play with their trucks on it. I understand his motives but his execution is terrible. There are times in previous books where I thought Secret may have been a bit too hard on him. After this book, I want to go back and cheer Secret on during those scenes. Really…gah. Yet my heart somehow still goes out to him. He is the werewolf king and he has to consider his pack first. That’s just how it is. I don’t remember disliking and liking a character equally like I do Lucas. Once again, proof that Sierra can write. Before I continue, I can see how some of you have just read my paragraphs about Secrets three men are rolling your eyes. But do not judge and do not fret – Sierra does this love ‘square’ exceptionally well. I have mentioned this before in previous reviews and I feel it bears repeating: Secret is not laying around with her legs open for guy one then guy two a little later in the evening. She is true to her feelings and is aware of the others’ feelings. She is not hiding anyone from anyone either. She is bonded to two men and close friends with another and it is because of this that she is in the situation that she is. I am not usually a fan of love triangles – I think they can get very messy and I hate how someone always gets hurt then turns into a big fat immature jerk making me lose all respect for him. But in this case, I think everything will turn out for the best. I have faith in Sierra and in her writing. Her stories draw you in – whether it be her novellas or her full length books – and she knows how to balance love and action and mystery. One does not necessarily overpower the other. She has some serious writing chops and I trust her. (Do you hear me Sierra? I trust you! Don’t break that trust! ;) )As usual, the story in Deep Dark Secret is…busy. People need help, people are missing, people are dying and Secret must help figure it all out. The ultimate villain is creepy as heck – in what he does and what he looks like. Sierra writes creepy yucky villains people. ‘Ew’ worthy villains. And in this book we witness Secret in her “very important vampire person” duties and also in her “very important werewolf person” duties. I wonder what will happen when the masses find out that she is a mixed-breed? Then I think I don’t want to know because how people react to that sort of news has the potential of being quite predictable. Then again, it all goes back to trusting the author and her ultimate vision for this series.I wasn’t 100% sure how to rate this book. In the first 80 or so pages we are introduced to many many many little plot lines. As I said, this story is busy. I found myself wondering where they were all going and hoping they would start to make sense soon. They were really entertaining, don’t get me wrong. The pace of the book is fantastic as always, but I was just wondering. Suddenly bam! I stayed up late finishing this book…and at 4am when my son came into my room because he couldn’t sleep and needed help finding his doudou, I found myself falling asleep thinking about the book. I also thought about it first thing when I woke up. That is the sign of a great book in my opinion and that is why I rated it the way I did. This series is fantastic. The writing is constantly solid and tight, the stories are incredible, the characters are amazing – and create very passionate responses in readers. If you haven’t found this series yet, you must give it a try. It’s just incredible.

“You want to tell me the truth,” I commanded. Gabriel looked puzzled, tilting his head to the side. “I am telling you the truth.” Fuck, this wasn’t going to be as easy as saying, These are not the droids you are looking for.3.5 StarsWho knew hair-pulling could hurt so badly? I took back every catty thing I’d ever said about the ladies on Jersey Shore.Well I have to say this is an improvement from book two. In Deep Dark Secret we finally get to see Secret grow up and stop being so selfish, don't get me wrong she still has her moments where I want to slap some sense into her but she's finally understanding her rank in the pack and what is expected of her. The next night I awoke feeling like I had been skull fucked by something with a monstrous three-pronged penis that leaked acid. I felt awesome. But don't mind me I'm getting off topic. In the third installment of the Secret McQueen series Secret is dealing with becoming a Tribunal Leader and her rogue hunting days have come to an end. She now has Holden as her bodyguard. Then Lucas informs her that the Pack is possibly being targeted for a take over by her Uncles pack. So it's up to Secret and Lucas to show a united front and send out the warning that messing with their pack would be a very bad idea. If Secret's life wasn't complicated enough she has to solve the mystery of a missing girl and numerous murders so basically another day in the life of Secret McQueen. He stroked his chin, a habit he’d picked up when he’d had a beard that had stuck with him when the hair was gone. “It must be bad if you’re stroking the invisible beard.” “That sounds like a ninth-grade euphemism for masturbation.”So this book had its highs and lows. It took me about 30% of reading to get me interested in what was happening. The start seemed to drag out and I was getting impatient for some of the action to start. But once it did it was so good. Secret is such a bad-ass and I love her sarcastic remarks to everyone no matter how important you are. This book definitely left me asking some weird questions in terms of Secret's lifeline and what fate has in store for her and I hope we get to see more of her Tribunal Leader duties in the next book. “You still stink,” he said with a roguish smirk, kissing the tip of my nose. “Yeah well…” There was no obvious comeback, so I went for an old classic. “Your face still stinks.” “Real smooth.” “Shut up.”Now I usually don't like love triangles but this book can 'kinda' get away with it. Even though it's more like a love-square thing happening. What annoyed me so much in the last book was how Secret treated Lucas, he is the pack leader and she's his mate so he has to make some very hard decisions and he can't always do what is best for Secret, especially if it jeopardizes the pack. So she would bitch and moan every chapter about it but thankfully in this book she's had some sense knocked into her. Even though there were a few things Lucas did that I didn't agree with I could still understand his reasons and if I was in his position I think I would have done the same. Her relationship with Desmond is also tested but I don't think it's been pushed to the limit yet, it'll be exciting to see how he's going to handle some of the recent developments in book 4. Hmmmm Holden, I don't know what it is about him but I love him and maybe Secret should just give her two werewolf boyfriends the flick and shack up with the vamp. Just saying. A slick sidewalk had a way of making anybody its bitch.Overall I think it's my favorite Secret McQueen book so far but I'm getting a little sick of Secret yo-yo-ing between guys. I also vote for more Sig in the next book. I'll definitely keep going with this series, it's kinda like crack. May not be good for you but damn it's addictive.“Well…” He handed me the glass. “Now you smell like a rotting fruit salad. I guess it’s an improvement.” “Did they teach you how to woo a lady at charm school? You’re excellent at it.” “You mean we don’t club women over the head and drag them back to our caves? Hmm.” He swallowed a mouthful of water. “We wolfmen must have missed that lesson.”

I read each of the first 4 of this under-the-radar e-book series in a day or two over a short period of time. It's really entertaining - high on action, and with great characters. The main character is a 20-something half werewolf/half vampire in NYC who started off as a rogue vampire hunter in book one and moves up in the supernatural world quickly. I loved the snarky humor and Secret's very complicated love life. (Holden and Desmond are to die for awesome, and I really like Sig, too.) If you are into vampires, werewolves, and urban fantasy action (with some steamy scenes in every book), you will enjoy this series. FYI, each book ends on a cliffhanger. Buy the kindle bundles - they are worth it.

Next villain: Demon....quite an engaging read, it show that Secret is not villain-proof and show her weaknesses in unexpected situation with ex-boyfriend resurface and exposing another Secret's puzzle piece.I think I'm going to hate Lucas as the series progress, he's quite high-handed being the typical alpha male that will annoyed you to death.

This book was awesome. I always get a bit of a giggle from the way Secret thinks and speaks. This one was no different. Secret was up to her eyeballs in mysteries to solve and she rocked it & kicked it ass as per usual, with the sass she is best known for.In this book, the 3rd, we follow Secret (half vampire and half werewolf) take her place on the Vampire Council and try to give up her hunting. Her wolf and vampire natures are getting closer to the surface and she is desperately trying to cling to her humanity, all while trying to find the missing niece of the Ocelot Queen, balance her two lovers Lucas (King Alpha) and Desmond (Alphas Second), take her place as the pack protector to try and prevent a hostile takeover from her baddie cousin, as well as work out whos killing the missing college girls. Ying & yang.Lucas what a douche. I mean seriously? He is a manipulative, unkind, jealous douche. I cant believe the things he said and did. From where Im sitting, he seems just plain selfish. He is out. I dont think there is any way he can redeem himself in my eyes, short of sacrificing himself for Des, then he can be Alpha and he & Secret been together until the end of timeHmpfff. I know thats never ganna happen. And you know what, I kind of got that the pack always comes number one, but I felt that Lucas could maybe go about it a little differently. Saynot manipulating Secret & threatening her lover? Again, I say DOUCHE!I missed Sig, I had thought he would pop up for sure. But, nothing. Hmmmm. I am certain there is more here after what happened last book when the Oracle let something slip briefly talking to Sig about Secret near the end, then cut her sentence off. Watch this space!Holden. I think there could definitely be something here. He cares about Secret. Deeply. I love the dog comments and he makes me giggle with his moody stomping. Its hilarious to read about him tantruming and giving Secret the silent treatment. She is funny, fun & tough, and really deserves a little break (Sierra, this ones for you :D), but not too big. I want to know what happens next!

I don't know where to begin. First off, I absolutely love this series and it keeps getting better with each book. This is really not going to be a review. Just a jumbled squee-fest of how much I love this book and why Desmond rocks!Deep Dark Secret had me on the edge of my seat. I was so engrossed in the plot and the characters that I completely ignored my family while reading this book. There are few times where a book causes me to want to throw my Kindle against the wall and I experienced a couple of those urges while reading. Instead of of throwing my Kindle, I gripped it really, really hard and gritted my teeth. All this is a good thing! That means Sierra Dean has done her job as a writer and made me care about the characters, get frustrated with them, be annoyed by them and absolutely fall in love with them. It's not a secret (heh) that I am Team Desmond all the way. I think that he has proven to be The One for Secret. He is the only man in her life that doesn't manipulate her to get what he wants. He knows when to be hands off and he knows when to jump in and have her back. That's my kind of werewolf! On the other we have the Werewolf King, Lucas. I will admit, I have been hating on Lucas but I had decided to give him a chance. I mean, it's not his fault that Secret is soul-bonded to two werewolves. So, here I am, reading, enjoying myself, wanting more Desmond (hee hee) but Lucas finally gets some one-on-one time with Secret. And does the unthinkable! I was SO pissed. It was one of those moments where I wanted to throw my Kindle but I gripped it instead. I could not believe what Lucas did (will not reveal cause it's super duper spoilery). I hurt for Desmond when he discovered it and was angry for Secret (although she didn't deserve my support cause she does something later on in the book that totally pissed me off!) Any chance of me liking Lucas went out the window. I understood why he did it but I did not like it. And I felt there was a different way that he could have handled it.So I pretty much dislike Lucas the entire book. He does some more behind the back shady shit and this is where Secret gets on my list as well. I know she's soul-bonded to Lucas and feels the attraction blah, blah, blah but she LOVES Desmond but the fact that she did what she did with Lucas and without an ounce of guilt, pissed me off. So strike one Secret. I'm not even sure she deserves someone as good as Desmond. I hope he finds out and finally tells Lucas and Secret where to go. And then have Secret crawling back to him, begging for his forgiveness. Yeah...that's how I want it to go down.I'm not even going to mention Holden. He's good for the one-liners and he does have Secret's back even though there are strings attached. I still don't like the fact that he manipulated Secret by making her promise him a night in bed in order for him to help her (this happened in previous novella - Secret Santa). Is he that damn desperate to get between her legs? Is her "little secret" made of gold? To use a phrase from Basketball Wife Evelyn Lozada: "He's a non-motherfucking factor" in my book. But I'm sure Dean has something up her sleeve that will drive me crazy! Holden isn't going away anytime soon. Yeah, I have strong feelings about this book, the series and the characters. I love it!I loved this book. Sierra Dean is an evil genius. I can't wait to read the next installment. If you haven't read this series, you must check it out! And then we can discuss who's team you're on!Another favorite quote:"So that's why all my shirts smell like you. I was starting to think I was going crazy.""You are going crazy. Every day you stay with me proves it."A+

Secret McQueen has really got her work cut out for her in the third installment of this exciting series. She's got a new job as one of the Tribunal Leaders and is having trouble adjusting to having power. She's also in love and dating 2 different men. Yup you read that right. She has bonded to both Lucas and Desmond who are werewolves and who both love Secret. Her friend and fellow vampire Holden also has feelings for her and there is definitely some tension between the two of them as Holden lets Secret know that he wants her. Put this all together and Sierra Dean always gives her readers entertaining and interesting stories! In book 3 of the series, Secret must investigate the disappearance of college student and as always she's got her hands full trying to figure out exactly what happens. There were some moments in this book that made me worry for Secret because Sierra Dean always manages to find other supernatural beings that have some type of power that Secret has to go against. But Secret is one tough heroine to beat and always manages to find a way to defeat them. Secret has a complex relationship with all of the males in her life and each one is different and unique. She shares something different with each one of them and with that we get to see a different side of Secret. Her oldest friend and biggest supporter Holden (whom I absolutely love) seems to be the one she can always rely on. I love when the two of them team up together, especially now since there is this underlying tension between the two of them that hasn't been resolved yet. Holden cares for her deeply and while he didn't make his feeling known for a long time, he doesn't want to lose her and feels as if he's the better man for her. He also think that because he's a vamp that he's better for her as well as apposed to Lucas and Desmond who are weres. Her relationship with Lucas is probably the one that is the most difficult because of his position with his pack. They both have to show that their bond to one another is the real thing in this book because of the unrest in the were population. The pack is relying on Secret to stand next to her mate during this time and Lucas will do what he must in order to make this happen. Last but not least is Desmond who truly has Secret's heart. She finds comfort and stability with him and it'll be interesting to see what happens to their relationship after what happens in this book. It may seem that Secret is very lucky to be surrounded by men that care about her so, but at the same time she's going to have to make a very difficult decision in the future I'm sure. To put it simply, Sierra Dean's books are fun. They are very entertaining and I find myself unable to stop reading until I get to the very end. I find myself looking forward to the next one the minute I'm done reading and love the direction in which the series is going. At the heart of it all is Secret who in my opinion whose character is very well written. She's hard working and loyal to those who rely on her and I can't wait to see what comes her way next because if there is one character that can handle it, it's Secret.

Review originally posted here: http://thebookpushers.com/2012/03/05/...Oh Secret, I don’t even know where to start. I alternately love and sometimes hate you, and yet you’re like crack to the urban fantasy lover in me.Secret’s life keeps turning upside down and right side up. She’s sitting on the vampire Tribunal, trying to make things work with Lucas and Desmond and continually gets wrapped up in more mystery than one girl can handle. She is committed to helping find a missing college girl, help her ex-boyfriend get exonerated on murder charges and navigate the murky waters of her personal life. When she stumbles across a professor who doesn’t seem quite human, Secret’s whole existence will be put to the test with lost memories. Mix that in with Lucas acting selfishly at Desmond and Secret’s expense, they might not get out of this one alive, or with their hearts intact. While I am an absolute sucker for the urban fantasy genre, the romantic at heart ultimately wants to know there will be a happily ever after, and with the Secret books, I find my inner romantic constantly let down. Secret’s romantic relationships are messy and ugly and nasty and make me want to open a can of whoop ass on Lucas and Holden, and even occasionally Desmond. I want there to be some kind of definitive love match, and Dean keeps throwing a wrench in my fantasy. I was a million times more pissed at Lucas in this book than ever before. He is an egotistical asshat who doesn’t take anyone else’s feelings into consideration. While I can see his reasons, it doesn’t make me want to hurt him any less. That aside, Dean is an incredible UF story teller. The plot twists and turns and interweaves from the very first page. The action is constant and keeps me on my toes from the first page to the last. Her imagination and ingenuity in building the world and people in it continue to blow me away. I loved the demon aspect in this story, and the paranormal aspects seriously amaze me.I enjoy the fact that the series is also moving along and unfolding even more with every book. Although I’m still not sure where Secret is headed in the overall series, I love the journey we are taking with her. Each book slowly unravels more about the vampire Tribunal, the ongoing werewolf politics and just how Secret will fit into both worlds. I can’t wait to see what happens next. All in all the Secret McQueen series continues to provide for a fun, snarky and action-packed read. I love Secret’s sense of humor, the mystery in each book and overall direction of the series. While the romantic in me is still unbelievably frustrated (and I have a feeling that just isn’t going to end anytime soon), I will continue to pick up these books in hopes that Secret will tell Lucas where he can stick his precious pack, tell Holden to take a flying leap and live happily ever after with Desmond. A girl can hope right?I give Deep Dark Secret a B-

GENRE: Paranormal RomanceTHEME: Werewolves, vampiresRECEIVED: Review Request from AuthorBLOG: http://seeingnight.blogspot.com/REVIEW:Do you know when you love a book and it’s characters so much? Well when you start yelling and talking to the book like they can actually hear you. Yes, this time around Sierra Dean sucked me more into her work of Secret McQueen. So much happens and some character make really bad decisions, well I think they did. But I loved every minute this action packed, romance, paranormal mystery with unforgettable characters. Secret has made it to the top, well kind of. She has hunted vampires, werewolves and evil supernatural creatures and now she has taken a seat with the top vampires, but she hasn’t left her old life of hunting behind. When a girl goes missing and she finds out that it’s the niece of the Ocelot Queen, the means Secret goes back to work. But that’s not her only problem, she’s trying to get her life together with the two werewolf men in her life, all and all her life is never easy.Secret is fantastic as always and the crazy mystery behind the missing girl and this killer she’s after is creepy and action packed. But no matter what’s going on in her life she still holds on to her snarky attitude and is always ready to take down the bad guy.The boys in this one really did a number on me; my favorite is Desmond with Holden coming in at a close second. Desmond being Lucas’ the Alphas second but also Secrets live in boyfriend. I feel kind of bad for Secret because she didn’t ask for the bond between her, Desmond and Lucas, which puts her feelings all over the place. Plus she also has a deeper connection to Desmond, which Lucas isn’t too keen on. Then there is Holden, Secrets handler and vampire, whom really cares for her but is more of a friend; though he wasn’t as prominent in the book.Overall a lot happens in the book, mystery, death, and of course the creepy villain. The ending was intense and lets just say I’m not fond of Lucas at all. He seems to not understand that taking things way too far, thinking that since he has the power he can use it in whatever way he wants. I hope that Secret takes matters into her own hands and makes him see just how wrong he was. In the end I loved Sierra Deans third installment and she really knows how to make the readers beg for more. I highly recommend this series that just keeps getting better and better.RECOMMENDATION: This is an adult novel with sexual content and some kick butt violence. Fans of Jenifer Estep’s Elemental Assassin series and Chloe Neill’s Chicagoland Vampire series will love Deep Dark Secret by Sierra Dean.

(3.5 Stars) When I first discovered the Secret McQueen series I was absolutely enthralled. I reacted to the incredible writing of Sierra Dean including the world building, characters, kick butt action scenes and romance. However, there was one thing that bothered me from the start and it still bothers me today. "What?" you might ask. It's the love triangle aspect. In this edition, Secret is serving on the vampire council and not at all loving it. However, a favor has been asked of Secret from a vampire acquaintance. The request was sent through Holden, and she abliging agrees to it. She has been asked to locate the vmapire's missing niece, Lucy ( a student at Columbia University). Just as Secret begins to investigate she receives frantic phone messages from her friend, Mercedes. It seems her cad of an ex-boyfriend has been arrested for murder and has requested Secret's assistance in clearing his name. If these are not enough problems, Secret and Lucas year long love tango has heated up to a new level leaving her with a surprise that will shatter her and possibly her relationship with Desmond. This is the beginning of the problems for me in this book.In book 2 I stated that I would have preferred Secret with Lucas. Well, I've changed my mind because although he professes his love for her he constantly usurps her intelligence, freedom and decisions to benefit himself and his standing in his pack. In truth he uses her in the worse possible way: as a pawn in his little game of chess. But, this is almost secondary to the way Secret's character has morphed into a "Hoochie Mama Supreme." It is like she has never met a man she is not attracted to: the vampire Holden, Tyler the detective, Lucas the Werewolf King, and Desmond. Enough already. She is almost 30 years old and should know by now who the hell she wants.Truthfully speaking, I found that I did not like Secret very much in this book nor too many of the other "so called good guys." However, I have to admit that the villain, a demon, was just plain delicious as bad guys go. His character made this story line sing for me. Not to mention, the action scenes were remarkable as well. In the end, I enjoyed this installment, it just wasn't my favorite because it made me question whether or not I even like Secret any more. She has lost her edge somehow. She allows everyone to use her as their pawn and it blurs the line of who she really is. However, Dean eludes to future installments that will have catastrophic consequences for our herione. I will read the next book to see if these issues are ironed out before I decided whether or not to continue on with the series.
