My sister forced this book on me gave me this book. She is a big fan of oil pulling and many other woo-woo cure-alls non-traditional health strategies. The book is full of dubious citations and implausible miracle claims and scare stories about people dying from dental issues they didn't even notice, but I suppose that swishing oil around your mouth is probably harmless. At least I hope so as my sister makes me do it when she's around. If you are a medical professional and know of some health risk involved please let me know!

This is not only a must read, it's a must do - if you care about your health. It's quick, it's easy and oil pulling is now part of my daily regime. Every 6 months I go to my dentist for a scale and clean and after just one month of oil pulling and visiting the dentist; I was rescheduled to scale and clean in 6 months time. I didn't need it. This is genius!

Before trying the practice of oil pulling, I read two different books on the subject. This is one of them.SUMMARY: "All disease starts in the mouth! As incredible as it may seem, most of the chronic and infectious illnesses that trouble our society today are influenced by the health of our mouths. Our mouths are a reflection of the health inside our bodies. If you have poor dental health, you are bound to have other health problems. Despite regular brushing and flossing, over 90 percent of the population has some degree of gum disease or tooth decay. Most people aren’t even aware they have existing dental problems. Recent research has demonstrated a direct link between oral health and chronic illness. Simply improving the health of your teeth and gums can cure many chronic problems."REVIEW: The above statement is the basis that Dr. Fife works from. The author states that oil pulling does not pull toxins from the body to the mouth as many claim, but rather pulls bacteria and toxins from the mouth, freeing up the immune system to do important work elsewhere. Science has proven that oral health can have a direct link to health in the rest of the body. More than half of this book is taken up with scientific research and case studies backing this natural health therapy. THE NOT AS GOOD: Although Dr. Fife cites a lot of scientific study to back up his claim as to why oil pulling works, he also throws in quite a bit of his own intuition. This feels inappropriate for a book written by a physician. Also, Dr. Fife believes any oil will do no matter the quality. I cannot agree with this. Quality should always matter. There is a huge difference between putting cold-pressed virgin olive oil in your mouth and cheapo corn oil. CONCLUSION: Dr. Fife has his own method of how to complete oil pulling that differs a bit from others. This is why I read more than one book on the subject to get different views and to decide for myself what would work the best for me. This book is good if you are looking for the reasons why oil pulling works rather than just how to do it. Does oil pulling work? I have been doing it for two weeks with a good quality oil and have already seen some major results in muscle and digestive relaxation as well as more energy during the day. I am beginning to feel much less sensitivity in my gums and teeth. But I think two weeks is too little of time to make a firm decision so I will keep at it a while longer. If nothing else, my jaw muscles are becoming much stronger from the daily swishing!

Here is a safe and very easy way to vastly improve your health without special pills or diets. All it requires is swishing a spoonful of vegetable oil around your mouth for at least 15 minutes at a time. Many scientific studies have chronicled a link between chronic illness and the health of our mouths (the book references over 150 such studies). Think about it; our mouths are constantly warm and moist, like a tropical rain forest, which is a great breeding ground for germs. They are also open to the outside, so it is very easy for bacteria to enter our mouths and take up residence. From there, the bacteria can enter the bloodstream and travel to any part of the body. There it can cause anything from arthritis to constipation to eczema to hypertension to sinusitis (all of which have been reported as responding to oil pulling). What do you do? Take a tablespoon of nearly any vegetable oil (the author recommends coconut oil) and swish it around your mouth for several minutes, then spit it out. That's all. Teeth are very porous, full of tiny tubules where the bacteria can hide. Brushing, flossing or mouthwash will not clean out those tubules; oil pulling will. This is not a cure for whatever ails you. Oil pulling simply removes the infection from your mouth so that your body's natural healing properties can do their job. This is totally safe for children and pregnant women, as the only ingredient is vegetable oil. It can also be done several times a day, if necessary. If you experience side effects, like coughing up mucus, or the sudden onset of what feels like the flu, don't worry about it; it's your body cleaning itself out. Also, don't worry if you don't see any immediate improvement in your health; some people simply heal faster than others. Also, after you are done swishing, do not swallow; spit it out. You don't want to remove the bacteria from your mouth, just to deposit it in your stomach.Improving your health is not supposed to be this easy. This book is very easy to read for anyone, and is very highly recommended.

A friend told me about oil pulling about 5 months ago and I didn't pay much attention. So when I saw this book I knew I was missing out on something. I know Bruce Fife and have enjoyed a few of his other books. I believe he has a pretty solid foundation in nutrition. I skimmed over a chunk of this book (regarding specific health conditions mostly), but the main parts I did read were fascinating (e.g. when diseased teeth from humans were placed in animals, the animal contracted the same physical illness - liver disease, joint issues, etc.). The history behind oil pulling offers up some good reasons to give it a go and the link between other density theories also is quite compelling. While the process itself has no research to back up any health claims, there are logical conclusions that can be drawn by just the basic facts known about the mouth and bacteria. With all that said, I have added oil pulling to my health regime, it is almost too easy not to!

This was a great book that really explained how our dental health affects our overall health. It explained the oil pulling method and also explained the science that backs it up and the extensive studies that have been done regarding oral health and how it affects overall health. One of the studies that was mentioned was studies done by Dr. Price and the issue with root canals. The dangers that are associated with root canals, amalgam fillings, and dentist materials were discussed in depth along with the dangers of Floride. There was a lot of great information in this book with great resources and studies to back it up with. I would highly recommend this book!

Very interesting, new ideas and information that I found to be useful.1. How to oil pull: 1 tbsp of oil swish in your mouth for 20min.2. Do it 1-4 times a day. Morning before food is the most important one.3. Diet is the key to everything. Sugar is the worst enemy. 4. Even if you brush your teeth after eating sugar, sugar levels rise in your body = levels of sugar in saliva change. Your teeth will suffer anyways. 5. Oil pulling will make your teeth whiter and your gums healthier. Maybe even cure you from some diseases. It's easy and not harmful in any way. Why not to try it?PS: I enjoy the process and coconut oil tastes good to me :).

Thus is the third book I have read by Bruce Fife. It is an easy read filled with a lot of good information. I have oil pulled off and on (only because when I start oil pulling it never fails that my kids want to ask me questions that must be answered. ) the results are amazing. I really believe that this is a tool to use for over all good health. It is natural and doesn't conflict with medications. In a time that we are bombarded with processed foods, toxins in the environment and in our homes we need to take measures that keep us healthy.

Very interesting. I started Oil Pulling and have done it for about 1 week. I noticed so far that my teeth are whiter and my breath is much fresher. I add a drop of clove or wintergreen essential oil while I am pulling. Also, I noticed that it is easier to floss my teeth. The floss glides between my teeth now. I am hoping to see a inprovement in my digestive system and other health issues. The books says it could take at least 45 days. The process sounded kind of gross but I found it to be easier then I thought. I use refined coconut oil. I have also tried Young Living V6 oil.

This works! I have been oil pulling with coconut oil for almost a year and let me tell you - you would be surprised at what wonders it works for your body. I always had problems with 'monthly' cramps... I started oil pulling and I don't even have to take Advil anymore. Teeth... whiter. Skin... clearer. Sweat... sweeter. LOL that sounds funny, right? I'm serious. Try it for a month, you'll see :-) And if it doesn't work for you, Google the many things you can do with that wonderful coconut oil!

I rated this one a three because I'm not sure this works for people who regularly floss and brush already. It probably would work well for people with advanced dental problems, but then any cleaning would be great! It also seems like an entire book wouldn't be needed to describe this process, which is basically "swish vegetable oil in your mouth for ten to 15 minutes per day". If you need to be convinced of the benefits or are just curious, it's still worth a read.

Knowledgeable but not worth itThe book itself was insightful to the wonderful world of dentistry, but truly I feel there was only a few pages that really covered the actual topic of oil pulling. Yes it does explain the science behind the process, but in reality save yourself the time of reading the overwhelming about of knowledge of tooth decay, swish coconut oil in your mouth for 20 minutes and spit.

If you can get past the blatant typos and misuse of some scientific terms (in an attempt to make the material more approachable I assume), the overall message of this book is good and easy to follow. I started the process of oil pulling before having read this book (or any book on the subject) and it was good to see some of the evidence to back up this therapy. Would recommend with the caveat: this text definitely needs some editing.

Great book! People have no clue how modern medicine has failed and is causing so many diseases like cancer. The body can heal itself from almost anything if the conditions are right. The book does a great job showing the links between many illnesses and bacteria.

Ever heard of Oil Pulling? Think it's BS? Read this book and find out way more than you're expecting regarding oral health and general wellness. The book goes into great depth about causes of illness from oral issues and only touches upon oil pulling techniques in the final chapters. Seriously informative and worth reading if you're interested in the practice.

Reviewed first on my blog: http://www.fragrantuniverse.com/oil-p...I’ve read tons of health benefits of doing oil pulling, not only for teeth and oral health, but also for the health of the entire body. However it is one thing to read what other bloggers say (like me), and quite another to read a book written by a professional on the topic. In fact this book has been recommended a lot on the oil pulling Curezone forum so I decided to pick it up and read it. I’ve already talked briefly about this book in my oil pulling post, but I thought such a great book deserves a separate post as well. Now I already knew that oil pulling works when I started reading this book, but what it really did for me was strengthen my belief that I am doing the right thing – and more importantly the right way.Dr. Bruce Fife states in the book that “all disease starts in the mouth” and he is right. There are many chronic illnesses that could be prevented if just a better mouth care were practiced. We take food through our mouth, our saliva goes from the mouth to the stomach and the air is going through the mouth and nasal passages as well. While nutrition goes through the mouth, so do toxins, viruses, bacteria and all sorts of germs.

I am torn between giving this book 3 or 4 stars. The information presented in this book is absolutely wonderful, but the way it is presented is not very appealing. So, the reader can decide for themselves. I have been oil pulling off and on for two years, but will definitely make a more consistent habit of it. The benefits are numerous and studies (as well as countless testimonials) prove that this ancient Ayurvedic practice is something that should be incorporated into Western though concerning dental and oral care. I loved learning a bit more about how far back this practice started and the key figures that introduced this to our modern society. Also, there is plenty of great dietary advice to achieve optimal results in restoring the health of your teeth. So, there is a part of the book that gets very specific in terms of food and in terms of how to take care of your teeth. Definitely a must read for those who might have stumbled across this practice via Pinterest/Blogs, but want a bit more background and information behind oil pulling!

I had never heard of this book or of this technique until I was in a natural food and health store in Bainbridge Island, WA. I saw it on the shelf and was immediately intrigued. I started using oil pulling, with coconut oil, even before I was finished with the book. It made enough sense to me to start it out.Reading this book gains you much more information than how to use oil to rinse and purify your mouth. Nutritional information abounds, as does relevant biological and medical information.I am going to keep oil pulling. I haven't seen too much difference yet, other than a fresher mouth, although the first day I did it I felt extra alive most of the day, more alert than usual.

As I am having some dental issues for the moment, I am trying to find alternative ways of dealing with it, also because my dentist doesn't seem to find a problem. While searching on the Kindle Store I came upon this book, and thought why not! I already have read several books of Bruce Fife regarding the use of Coconut Oil, and found this book equally good and interesting. However, the method is not complicated and it wasn't necessary to write a whole book about this subject. Anyway, I have tried oil pulling for the first time yesterday evening (even-though the author recommends to do it first thing in the morning) and we'll see if it will help with my dental pain.

the idea of (coconut) oil pulling to keep the mouth clean is an interesting one to me so i read this book ... the method of oil pulling and the logic behind oil pulling is explained in the book although there is a lot of repeating of basic information ... in addition the oil pulling as therapy (method and reasons) is brief and the largest part of the book is a review of good eating habits

This was a fantastic book on oral health and detoxification. The author debunks many myths that have been floating around on the Internet about oil pulling. If you ever wanted to learn more, I highly recommend reading this book rather than any article online.

Hmmmmm. I'm not sure what I think. I think I'll give it a try. If it works, I'll give it more stars. If it doesn't... My father-in-law is really into alternative medicine, so he introduces us all kinds of stuff. We;ll see what happens.

Oil Pulling is very simple. It’s worth a try. It felt great. Page 108 has the basic instructions. The rest of the book has the support and the stories that might help you be willing to try this unusual therapy.
